On Annabelle’s 7 month birthday, we started Stage 2 baby foods. To be honest – it was by accident! I decided to give organic food pouches a try before we went on vacation and had to rely on them the nights we couldn’t get her fresh food. Stage 2 baby foods look pretty similar to stage 1 baby foods. However, stage 2 baby foods are strained instead of pureed and they have combinations of fruits or vegetables instead of single ingredients.
I picked up a few Beech Nut Stage 2 On-the-Go pouches when we were at the store on Sunday. I chose Beech Nut because of their ingredient list – it is ONLY the fruits and veggies listed, plus lemon juice. So far Annabelle has tried the Squash, Peas, and Pear Blend and the Pumpkin, Zucchini, and Apple Blend. She LOVED both – eating more than just a few spoonfuls. I like these pouches because as long as they are refrigerated after opening, they last 3 days.
Hopefully after vacation next week, I can try to make some of my own combinations of fruits and veggies for little Miss A. I found this great Baby’s First Foods Chart on Just Mommies that breaks down all the stages and serving sizes for your baby.
Yesterday a reader suggested that I check out Momtastic’s Wholesome Baby Food website for recipes for homemade baby food. The site is free and FANTASTIC! I am looking forward to trying out a few recipes. My sister in law is also bringing a book about making baby food for me on our trip.
